Object color

3ds Max also assigns colors to objects as you create them. By default color assignment is random but you can change the color of objects after they are created or set an option so that all objects are assigned the same color. To assign the same color to objects as you create them, uncheck Assign Random  colors in the object color dialog box..

3ds Max

3ds Max is a single document application means you can work on only one scene at a time. You can open copies of 3ds max to open a different scene in each copy but it requires a lot of RAM..
It means 3ds max opens only one scene file at a time. If you have enough  RAM you can run multiple sessions of the program & open a different scene file in each.

Teapot

Well, many of my students use to ask me about this kettle. In 1970 at the university of Utah , Martin Netwell created an elegant wireframe model of teapot, his colleague James Blinn used this teapot to experiment with different methods of surface rendering. It became so identified with 3d graphics that it became the symbol  in the 3d field.. Moreover its complex curved & intersecting surface are well suited to test different kinds of material map rendering settings.

Extended Primitives

Extended Primitives include more complex objects like  Hedra, Torus Knot, ChamferBox, ChamferCylinder, Oil Tank,Capsule,Spindle,L-Ext, Gengon, C-Ext,  Ringwave,Hose,Prism..They are found in the drop down menu of the geometry category..

Disappearing Parameters

Creation parameters disappear as soon as you exit object creation mode, or start creating a new object. This thing sometimes causes trouble .To get them back just
reselect the object, then open the Modify panel. The creation parameters reappear in the Modify panel in the state you last set them. Now you can adjust the parameters as much as you like..

Standard Primitives

There are 10 Standard Primitives in 3ds Max
Box, Cone, Sphere,Geosphere,Pyramid,Cylinder,Cone,Tube, Torus & Teapot.
Standard Primitives are found in the Geometry branch of the
Create Panel.you can find them in the Create Menu too.

Rscaling World Units

Suppose you are making a scene with a particular unit & in the halfway you realize that you are working with the wrong units. Now what , Just use the Rescale World Units Utility to scale up the entire scene or selected objects.
Choose Utility Panel -- More -- Rescale World Units-- Utility-- Rescale  -- ok..

Primitives

Well guyz. All is in your head, just need to put it in real. Just start with simple geometric shapes & don’t bite off more than you can chew. Take it easy, drag simple spheres,, box etc.so get the ball rolling on your very first attempt.

Well,, we have to start somewhere & Primitives will help you get that start. Usually, the modeller begins with one of the 3ds max primitives,  adds detail to it and refines the model.

So what are these Primitives?Primitives are the basic building blocks in Max ,you can use these primitives to start any modeling job. After you create a primitive, you can bend it, smash it, stretch it,,,, but for now,, we focus on using them in their default shape. You can make the complex models & objects with these blocks & further refine them with the modifiers.

So just now our main purpose is to create something cool!

 Wrapping up for now!

An Important tip

While working in 3ds Max ,, Suppose you are having problem in positioning an object that you have imported from external  file, you need to check the object's distance from the origin. Just move it closer to the origin , your problem will be resolved. Not only with the imported objects but when you are working with objects, the farther they are from the origin, the lower its accuracy & less precisely they can be moved.

System Unit Setup

Well, one of the first thing we need to do before starting our modelling work  is to set the system units. The system units have a direct impact on modelling & directly relate to the parameters entered with the keyboad.
3ds Max supports several different measurement systems including Metric & U.S. Standard units, Custom units etc.

To set the unit system, choose Customize-- Unit Setup & its options include Metric, U.S,Standard, Custom, Generic .
And  working with a unit system enables you to work with more accuracy & precision
because you 'll be using realistic values.
