Max File fails to open

Some of my Max friends have the problem of Max  file gets corrupted or file fails to open..I have two choices either  to merge it into an empty scene or look for an autoback file. And still if it does not get recovered,, You have lost your work :-(

Anyways for the future safety you guys can do one thing i.e save using the little + button on the "save as" function under the file menu. What this does is saves sequential Max files but just changes the number to the next in line.Now you will have many copies of a scene file and if the last file you were  working  on is corrupted, you  can a least get back to the file prior which has 95% of the work you were  working on anyway.
